As such, we have a separate system for writing down the sounds of the English language. Each sound is represented by a symbol, and these symbols are called <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoneme">phonemes</a></i>.<br /><br />There are several good sites offering phoneme charts for improving your English pronunciation. Here are three that I would recommend.<br /><br />1) <b><a href="http://www.englishonline.org.cn/en/learners/listening/sounds-interesting/phonemic-chart">The British Council China Phoneme Chart</a></b><br /><br />This is from the British Council's <a href="http://www.englishonline.org.cn/en">English Online</a> site. It is based in China, so it should load quicker than the others.<br /><br />2) <a href="http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/try/resources/pronunciation/phonemic-chart"><b>The British Council Phoneme Chart</b></a><br /><br />This is from the British Council's <a href="http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/">Teaching English</a> site. It is the same as the one above, but bigger and based on a UK website.<br /><br />3) <a href="http://www.onestopenglish.com/upload/public/attachments/37/osephonemicchart.swf"><b>The One Stop English Phoneme Chart</b></a><br /><br />This is from the <a href="http://www.onestopenglish.com/">One Stop English</a> site. It is an excellent phoneme chart, but unfortunately takes a long time to load.
